An instructor-led course on Microsoft 365 Copilot

MS 365 Copilot:
Advanced Topics and Integrations

A hands-on course exploring advanced Microsoft 365 Copilot capabilities. Practice one repeatable habit: ask clearly → check the source → keep limits visible → let the right person decide.

Before joining, review your department’s AI policy and confirm your available Copilot version with department IT. Use the supplied training packet in this course.

Course overview

Advanced capabilities. Clear human judgment.

This instructor-led course explores advanced features in the Microsoft 365 version of Copilot. It is designed for learners across operations, finance, IT, administration, service, management, and HR.

The story behind every lab. Fernhollow is a made-up city. Residents send the City service requests: a pothole, a broken streetlight, a missed trash pickup. Requests have piled up (that pile is the backlog), and residents wait too long for answers. The City started the Service Request Improvement Project to fix that. In every lab you work on that project. You use Copilot for one real task, then you check its work before anyone acts on it.
Before class: This course uses AI. Review your department’s AI policy, then ask department IT which Copilot version and approved features are available to you.

Required first step · 2 minutes

Before you start: four promises about safe practice.

This course uses made-up City of Fernhollow files, so nothing you type here is real. The promises below keep it that way, and they are the same habits you need at work. Read each one, check it, then select Confirm.

Check all four promises to continue.

Access route · after Safe Practice

Choose the route that matches your approved Copilot access.

Every route produces the same practice record. Features such as uploads, integrations, and agents can differ by your organization’s Copilot version, settings, permissions, policy, and available sources.

Complete Safe Practice first, then choose an access route.

Practice files · once, at the start

Put every practice file in your OneDrive, once.

Afterwards every lab picks its files from OneDrive instead of downloading them one by one. Copilot in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Agent Builder and Notebooks can only reach files that are in OneDrive.

  1. Select Download the zip below and save it.
  2. Unzip it: on Windows right-click, Extract All; on a Mac double-click. You get one folder, Copilot_Practice_Files, with the lab subfolders inside.
  3. Open OneDrive on the web with your work account (onedrive.com or the OneDrive tile in the app launcher).
  4. Select Upload, then Folder, and pick the Copilot_Practice_Files folder. Uploading the folder keeps the subfolders.
  5. In any lab, when a step says attach or add a file, choose OneDrive and pick it from this folder.

Download the zip (all practice files, 1.8 MB)

Practice arena

Read the source, make the safe move, explain why.

These are made-up practice cases. Pick the action that checks the facts and leaves decisions with the right person.

Four module journeys

Practice the same judgment in different work.

Optional. Each module card has a starter prompt and a short practice evidence card. Your labs have their own evidence records, so this page is extra practice.

Capstone evidence

Build an evidence record, not a certification.

Use a supplied training policy-conflict briefing to record three source-linked findings, a hand-check, a limitation, a safe data boundary, and a human owner. It is a learning artifact only.

3 source-linked findings+1 hand-check+1 limitation+1 human owner

Transfer loop · 30 days

Rehearse the habit without entering case details.

Record a sanitized work pattern, not a real case. Keep notes local, optional, and removable.

  1. Day 1Initial training rehearsal
  2. Day 7Peer source-and-limitation check
  3. Day 14Manager or SME discussion
  4. Day 30Reflect on authority and workflow change

Instructor-led delivery

Lead one complete course flow.
Keep every learner on the same objective.

Use the Instructor-Led Course Guide to open with policy and access checks, move through the ten learning objectives, transition between modules, and close with capstone evidence and a 30-day transfer plan. The trainer guide supports a mixed-access room without making any learner wait for a feature they do not have.

Facilitator cues are hidden by default and stay only in this browser session. Turn them on for show, do, and debrief prompts.

Course reference · 16 labs

Need to see the full route map?

The Today page always points to the next activity. Open this reference only when you want to compare a lab’s Full access, Chat-only, and Watch & verify options.

For facilitators · optional

Run the course from opening to close.

Use the downloadable Instructor-Led Course Guide with the optional in-page facilitator cues. It supports access checks, the ten objectives, timed transitions, capstone evidence, and a safe close without creating a roster or transmitting learner evidence.

Trainer run-of-show (the timed plan for the day) · 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM

One objective path, mixed access where needed

Every block uses the supplied training materials. When an app or feature is unavailable, use the named Text Pack, illustration, or manual verification route to produce the same evidence, not a simulated feature claim.

  1. Welcome, access check, Safe Practice
  2. Prompting and output validation
  3. Researcher, files, and screenshots
  4. Break
  5. Outlook, Teams, OneNote, and OneDrive
  6. Break
  7. Analyst and agent testing
  8. Copilot Studio workflow map and Copilot Notebooks
  9. Lunch
  10. Word and PowerPoint
  11. Excel
  12. Capstone
  13. Quiz and close

Feature note: Researcher, Analyst, Copilot Notebooks, agents, and Microsoft Copilot Studio can vary by tenant (your organization’s Microsoft 365 setup), license, administrator settings, permissions, policy, source access, and staged rollout. Confirm the approved route before each demonstration.

01

Safe Practice · 5 min

Open Safe Practice together. Confirm training-only input, mixed access, and the fallback route before any product demonstration.

02

Group by route · 5 min

Form Full, Chat-only, and Watch & verify groups. Give every group the same evidence-card outcome and a Text Pack fallback.

03

Observe evidence · throughout

Listen for four things: current source and anchor; check or correction; limitation; authorized owner or escalation. Coach re-practice when one is missing.

04

Transfer loop · 7/14/30

Ask learners to bring only sanitized patterns to peer or SME reflection. Never collect personnel, case, or protected HR information in this portal.
